IMPORTANT NOTICE:

SC Broadband Email Service Will End on January 2, 2025

We want to inform you that SC Broadband will be discontinuing Email service and the Webmail portal website for customers on January 2, 2025. If you have an email account with SC Broadband, your email account with us will no longer accept new emails and the Webmail portal will cease to be available after that date.

We understand that email is a vital communication platform and we do not take this decision to end email service lightly. That's why we are providing ample notification to make this change less impactful. We've also sent notices and additional guidance to the affected email accounts to assist you during this transition period.

For step-by-step guides and answers to common questions, we've provided an Email User Transition Guide at emailguide.scbroadband.com. Our Technical Support Team is also available to help with backing up old emails and transitioning to your new account. Please call 435-263-0000 or email techsupport@scbroadband.com any time you need assistance.

Email Service Alternatives

We understand that changing email services may be challenging and you likely have emails saved in your account that you don’t want to lose. No worries though, we’ve provided this step by step guide to help you through this transition. If you haven’t created a new email account to move to, that should be your first step. There are many options for email and we’ve provided some suggestions below. If you’d like our recommendation based on your situation or needs, please give us a call.

Recommended Email Services

  • Gmail – The powerhouse of free email service with more than a billion users worldwide.
  • Yahoo Mail – Free storage starts at 1TB! Yahoo’s web app automatically sorts and groups your emails.
  • Outlook – With its familiar feel and integrations with Microsoft 365, it’s a great fit for Microsoft users.

Additionally, to view your new email account and old saved emails, we recommend using an email browsing client rather than only logging in through a web browser.

Recommended Email Browser Clients

  • Microsoft and Apple provide desktop and mobile mail clients on many devices that support any email address and provide a good experience.
  • Thunderbird – As an open-source platform, there are numerous add-ons that make it quite versatile.
  • Spark – Use a range of tools that highlight important emails and block out unwanted noise.

Email Backup Instructions

STEP 1) To backup emails from your SC Broadband Webmail account, start by opening a web browser to this page: https://webmail.everyone.net.

STEP 2) Enter your full email address and password. Then click Log In.

NOTE: If you do not know your password, you can attempt to recover it using the Forgot Password link or contact our Technical Support Team at 435-708-2988.

STEP 3a) Find the emails you want to save and select them by clicking on the empty checkbox on the left side of each email. Or you can select all emails within your Inbox or a folder clicking the checkbox in top blue bar.

NOTE: If you have emails placed into various folders, you will need to click to view each of these folders and select the emails you want to save. Selecting all emails in your inbox will not capture emails that have been placed into folders. One strategy we recommend is to delete everything you do not wish to save and move everything you do want backup to a single “Backup” folder.

STEP 3b) When clicking the checkbox at the top, it will only select the first 100 messages that are displayed. If you have more than 100 emails in your inbox or the folder you want to save, you will need to repeat these backup procedures for each page of 100 emails in the inbox or folder.

STEP 4) Now that you have all the message you want to save selected, go to the top of the email browser window and click on the More box.

STEP 5) A drop-down menu will appear below. Click on Save Message(s).

STEP 6a) A file browser window will appear. You’ll then need to select a location for the emails to be saved on your device. We recommended creating a specific Email Backup folder on your desktop or in your documents folder so they will be easy to find in the future.

STEP 6b) The emails will be saved in a zip file with default file name of “email.” You may wish to give the zip file a different name like “SC Webmail Backup” then click Save.

STEP 7) You can now go to the location where the zip folder was saved and unzip it by opening the folder. Selecting one of the email files should then open the default email browser on your device. If you do not have an email browser, we recommend installing one of the programs listed above.

Setting Up an Email Forward

If you would like to automatically forward emails from your SC Broadband email account to the new email account you’ve established, set up the Forwarding option in Webmail.

NOTE: Please keep in mind this forwarding feature in Webmail will only be available until the system is discontinued on January 2, 2025. We recommend you start notifying those who need your new email now and begin using your new email account. If you like to keep your email address and permanently forward messages sent to your current SC Broadband email address, please contact our Customer Service Team at 435-708-2988.

STEP 1) Click the gear Preferences icon on the far left menu.

STEP 2) Select the Advanced features tab in the Preferences menu.

STEP 3) Look for the Forwarding setting and type the email address you would like your emails forwarded to in the text box.

STEP 4) We recommend clicking the checkbox below that new email address, to keep a copy of forwarded email in your SC Broadband account inbox. This will ensure that you see forwarded emails in your new inbox and can also refer to your old inbox to see who you need to contact and update your email address.

Email Transition FAQs

Why is SC Broadband discontinuing email service?

The short answer – We care about your email communication and your data, and we want our customers to move to a superior service that is reliable, modern, and free.

The long answer – Email service over years has become dominated by a few large corporations that have revolutionized the space and pulled most email users. These companies have heavily invested in robust email platforms and far surpassed solutions that a small company like ours can provide. Staying competitive with these global tech companies would require huge investment and we do not want to charge you for a solution you can get for free. Additionally, the email hosting resources that are available to companies our size have quickly become fewer, more costly, and less reliable. In fact, our team has had to move services multiple times recently, as a result of companies being sold or going out of business. So we feel the time has come to encourage our email customers to move to a more reliable solution that will better meet your needs.

What will happen to my SC Broadband email account and old emails after January 2, 2025?

You will no longer be able receive emails to your SC Broadband email account and you will no longer have access to the Webmail portal. We recommend that you use the coming months to back up any important emails and monitor your inbox to make sure you notify those who need your new email and update any online accounts.

Can you help me back up my important emails?

If you would like assistance with the email backup procedures, please contact our Technical Support Team at 435-708-2988. We’re available to answer questions and help you each step of the way. Alternatively, for a one-time fee, our Support Staff will provide one-on-one assistance, create a backup of your emails for you, and transfer them to your new account.

If you choose to have our Technical Support Team backup and move your emails, here are the requirements:

  1. Contact us at 435-708-2988 and request an email backup appointment.
  2. Make sure you have a new email account created and have the login information readily available.
  3. Verify your new email account allows IMAP email configuration (we can help with this).
  4. Go through your current inbox and emails folders and delete any emails you don’t need.
  5. Make sure you have a computer or laptop available to complete the transfer on. This device cannot be a phone or tablet and it must use Windows 10/11 or macOS 13/14.

My email address is really important to me. Is there a way to keep my current SC Broadband email address?

Yes, we are offering a relay service for residential customers to keep their email address. For $2.00/month, SC Broadband residential customers can keep their email address active and relay it to any new email account.

A couple things to keep in mind: 1) This relay service is simply a pass-through and no email inbox would be included. You will still need to create a new account/address on a different service for us to relay your email messages to. 2) This service will not be active and no monthly charge will be applied until the Webmail service shuts down permanently on January 2, 2025. You can sign up for this service today by contacting our Customer Service Team at 435-708-2988 or customerservice@scbroadband.com.

I use my SC Broadband email account for my business. Is there a solution to keep my business email address?

Yes, for business customers that need to maintain their email address, we’re offering Microsoft Office 365 Basic for a discounted rate of $6.99/month. This solution will keep your current email address active and Office 365’s cloud-based platform offers backups, scalability, and collaboration features that would be a benefit to most business email accounts. You can sign up for this service today by contacting our Customer Service Team at 435-708-2988 or customerservice@scbroadband.com.

Should I set up Auto-Replies, so people know that my email address has changed?

We do not recommend setting up auto-replies on your old SC Broadband Webmail account. While this feature is convenient to let family, friends, and colleagues know that your email address has changed, it also alerts anyone who messages you – including spammers. We encourage you to use this opportunity to clean up your inbox and only share your new email address with those you actually want to contact you.

I use an email client different than Webmail, why don’t I see any emails in my inbox when I log into Webmail?

You are most likely using POP3 email configuration which downloads emails to the devices with your email client and does not leave a copy of the email on the Webmail server. You won’t need to back up any emails from Webmail, as your emails are already saved on your device.

However, you may still wish to forward emails to your new email address (follow the directions with the guide above). Please be aware, there is no notification that the email has been forwarded to your new email address. So you’ll still need to make sure you notify any senders of your new email address before January 2, 2025.

How do I update my SC Broadband customer contact email, so I continue to receive my eBill notifications and important messages?

SC Broadband customer contact information can be updated any time using our convenient SmartHub online portal and SmartHub mobile app. You can download the SmartHub mobile app from the Apple Store or Google Play Store.

From a desktop or mobile web browser, go to socen.smarthub.coop. Look for Notifications at the top and then select Manage Contacts. Here you can add, edit, or remove contact methods on your account. To choose which notifications you receive, select Manage Notifications and choose which types of messages to receive email or text.

From the SmartHub App, launch the application on your device and log in. Tap Settings at the bottom and then Manage Notifications. Select the type of messages you want to review, like Billing, and then tap the type of message to add or change a contact method.
